Pale Ale in da heat

Gonna be the hottest day of the year so far, so why not wait till mid day to start?

It's 90 out side and over 100 in the garage.

Decided to go with the pale ale this time. I start liking the hoppy stuff when it gets hot out.

8 lbs 2 row

.5 lbs dextrine

.5 lbs 60L

1 oz Perle @ 60

.5 cascade @ 15

.5 cascade @ 10

.5 cascade @ 5

.5 cascade @ flames be gone

05 yeast

Took no time at all to heat the strike water today. 3 gallons of 162 water settled at 155. Perfect.

I have been noticing that with my larger tun that after the first run I can add all my sparge water and do one batch sparge. But, I'm not getting the efficiency that I used to get by doing 2 batch sparges. Will probably go back to that from now on.

Other than not getting a big boil off everything went great. Got sort of a low OG with the small boil off but 1.040 is ok.

Maybe I'll do what John Parsons was talking about and add some sugar right to the primary to boost the gravity a smidge. Maybe.

Back off Chipmunks.

Back off Chipmunks.

Brewed up the infamous Chipmunk Porter two weeks ago. Don't know why I don't have any data on it.

But it's gonna hit the gas tonite. Stout will be out and I need to get this carb'd up by next week end.

Just a quick history on this beer. This was one of the first recipes I came up myself. I had no idea what styles were, I just knew what flavors I wanted.

I hit the House of Homebrew, get my grains and head home. Set the bag of grains on my work bench and run in the house to grab some other supplies.

In the 5 minutes that I was in in there, two (probably more) chipmunks tore open the bag an ran off with facefulls of my grain.

(no I didn't reuse it)

Oh wait, I forgot the recipe…

9 lbs Maris Otter

.5 lbs chocolate malt

.25 lbs special b

.25 roast barley

.75 lbs 60L

1 oz fuggles @ 60

1 oz fuggles @ 15

Windsor yeast. Mashed @ 154

Good base beer I think. This batch I subbed EKG hops and used 04 yeast. I think would also be good with some late cascades. But I likes me some fuggles.

And will be brewing this weekend. I know it's Amber in the rotation, but I got the itch for SNPA.
