The Ukraine Brew

Alot of you probably seen the Solidarity brew for the Ukraine situation.

I was going to doing our monthly club brew and seen this a few days before,, so why not.

It labeled as an Anti Imperial stout. But feels more like a porter to me. I figured out a smaller abv batch to brew.. but as much as I like beets I decided to leave them out.

Ended up with an OG of 1.056. Has a good malt selection and really smells great in the kettle.

Been in the primary two weeks now so I’ll be taking a look at it one of these day now and decide when to get it kegged up.

There should be reviews of this recipe coming out soon from all over, and I can’t wait to compare what other proportions and gravities other people brewed.

Patagonia Porter

I won a pound of this Perla Negra roast grain a few weeks back so I figured I’d use it all in one blast to see what we get out of it.

All of the descriptions I’ve seen on it seem to make it out to be a “softer” roast. One of the huskless roasts, so should not have the bitter burnt aspect.

Other notes I’ve seen mention coffee and chocolate. It’s 340L so a pound shouldnt make it blacker than night, but we will see.

I also won a bag of Vienna with this, so I will use that as the base. I dont wanna hide the Perla profile so just a smidge of Crystal and I’ll call it good.

Before I got this into the fermenter I gave it a tatse. Very mild roast with bigger than expected chocolate and coffee. I can’t wait to get this one in a keg!

Iron Porter – homegrown edition

Iron Porter

A couple weeks ago I came up with this recipe for the kind of porter that you just cannot find any more.
But I took that recipe and substituted in my own homegrown Mt Hood hops.
Not really knowing the IBU, I planned for the highest alpha, but if they were even as low as half of what they should be they would fit in nice with the porter style
You really need some sort of bag when using whole hops or they tend to plug things up.
Iron Porter – homegrown
9 lbs 2 row
12 choc malt
4 oz black patent
1 oz roast barley
8 oz crystal 80
2.5 oz dried Mt Hood @ 60
2.5 oz dried Mt Hood @ 10
Mashed at 152
05 yeast
** skip ahead to bottling day**
OG of .058
FG of .010
Had to hold my self back from drinking to much if this right from bottling bucket. Once carbed  this is gonna be one great beer. I think I hit it right where I wanted it. Slight roasty and just the right sweet. The IBU seems in the mid range of the style.
But we will see once it’s fully ready
