Rebuild

I had a couple of kegs that needed to be rebuilt. It’s something that needs to be done from time to time. O-rings crack or swell or otherwise degrade. But it’s pretty easy maintenance.

Most homebrew shops, even Amazon has gasket sets for kegs for cheap. The come with a lid gasket, post and diptube rings.

You are going to need keg lube as well. Keeps the o-rings sealed tight. This is probably a one time buy, as one tube will last you 3 lifetimes.

Remove the big ring on the lid. Before putting the new one back in smear some of the keg lube around the lip and then over the ring it’s self. Thin layer. Don’t need to gob it on

Next take off a post. Your actual wrench size may vary.. but you most likely have it.. but of course they do sell specific post wrenches if you feel inclined.

Just push the gas or liquid tube out. You can see where the gasket is. Pull that off and relube and slide on the new o-ring. Make sure the top of the hole the post came from is clean as well.

Now for the posts. I usually change the poppits while I’m in here as well. They just push out. The o-rings probably need to be snipped or cut out. Then like the others, just lube the groove and slip on new ring.

Make sure to put your new poppits back in. Put tube back in and tighten down the post. Be careful here.. just tight enough to make a seal.. don’t over tighten or it will leak.

Once you got everything thing put back together. Fill the keg with water and put the gas on. Spray the top with starsan and check for leaks. There shouldn’t be any of course but if there is, usually just needs to be loosened a bit and retightend.
