Our club decided that we will be having a discussion on strong beers this November. Quite a ways out, but sometimes a bit of age helps the stronger beers come together.
For my strong beer I went with an Imperial stout. Its more or less just a slightly scaled up version of the Jagged Foreign Extra stout.
This was a tough mash in the old Mash and Boil The mash pipe is quite small and narrow, so stirring this much grain was difficult. But managed to get it and had an hour mash of 150F
The had the look of a boil over just waiting to happen, but everything went just fine. I was thinking that the mash didnt go so well, but we managed to hit all numbers and volumes.
With an OG of 1078, we currently have it fermenting away with Nottingham at 61F. I haven’t decided if this will be bottled or kegged, but we should have a few weeks to decide.
