The Ukraine Brew

Alot of you probably seen the Solidarity brew for the Ukraine situation.

I was going to doing our monthly club brew and seen this a few days before,, so why not.

It labeled as an Anti Imperial stout. But feels more like a porter to me. I figured out a smaller abv batch to brew.. but as much as I like beets I decided to leave them out.

Ended up with an OG of 1.056. Has a good malt selection and really smells great in the kettle.

Been in the primary two weeks now so I’ll be taking a look at it one of these day now and decide when to get it kegged up.

There should be reviews of this recipe coming out soon from all over, and I can’t wait to compare what other proportions and gravities other people brewed.

Foreign Extra

Finally got a beer going!

4th run of Jagged, the Foreign Extra Stout. Changed the hops a little. Went with Summit and Chinook to get more bittering than the last time. And went with baking soda in the mash to get those 3lbs of roast to stand out. (I didnt think 3lbs of roast would be so mellow)

Its my first brew in months, but all went great. Have another beer coming up shortly as well. Its an extract kit beer, but going to throw all of my left over bits of grains I got laying around in as well. Maybe even use up all the older hop packs I have.

Update: The Raspberry

It’s been a month since we brewed the Raspberry beer. Base beer something of a Munich Dunkle, but ale yeast.

I got it kegged up now. And is not as purple as it was before fermentation, but Wow,, it sure smells like it.

The OG on this was 1.080 and the Munich yeast chewed it down to 1.010, we’re looking at 9.2ish.

Its of course not carbonated yet, but these initial tastes are telling me that a 1/2 jug of the Vinters wine base, is waaaaaay to much for a beer.

I dont taste any beer at all. It is soo raspberry in the nose in the taste. Its not thin like I thought it might end up,, in fact its got decent feel to it. Once it carbs it might lose a little, but dont think it will be much.

At +9% this could be a dangerous beer, if you like the sweeter ones. So will report back after carbonation.
